I am still learning about DotNetNuke, and from what I have seen so far has been quite good. But I am having some problems with skinning.

BTW If you wish to get back to the original site with all of my content you can find the link here http://www10.brinkster.com/cbx/indexb.htm

I have just installed DotNetNuke on my new site at www.createdbyx.com. It's comming along nicley! I am quite impressed with the ease of use involved in getting it setup and running.

Any way there may be a few days of intermittent changes and down time as I finish getting the site up and running. So far every thing id goiung acording to plan! Whu Hoooooooo!

You may notic undesired or 404 pages appearing on my site for the next few weeks as I have just upgraded my web site from 30mb to 1gig storage and 30gig of bandwidth. I am now begining the process of updating my site to asp.net, and making it a more community friendly site!

I have returned, from mushroom picking! So I can now respond to your emails! I have also just upgraded my account at brinkster so that I will have more storage and bandwidth, in order to provide more content on my site! Like all the pictures I took from mushroom camp!

What's happinging?!?

Well it looks like I will be leaving tomorrow (August 11, 2004). Just thought I would let you know. So any emails I may recieve may not be responded to until around the end of september.

The mushroom picking season has begun! I will be bringing my camera this year so I can post some images to my web site. That way you can see what I do for 2 months a year.

This will probably be my last blog entry for the next 6 weeks or so. Until then ...

It's just so hard!

Ugrmph! I hate being so bleeding edge! I have been using VB.NET 2005 Express for over 2 weeks now and I have not even ran my copy of vb.net 2002 since. Don't get me wrong vb.net 2005 when it's released will kick ass. But I am starting to think my need for cutting egde tech is getting out of hand. I have to keep telling my self that the vb.net 2005 express I have been using is just a beta!

512 mb memory for windows xp pro is BS! When I upgrade my computer (hopefully soon) the memory is going to be maxed out at 3gig. This constant page file activity is pissing me off. VB.NET 2005 Express is a memory sucking vampire, whoose always hungry. My PF Usage keeps peeking up to 1.2 gig!

- Rant over.

DirectX 9.0c SDK now availible

Published 7/28/2004 by createdbyx in News

The DirectX 9.0 SDK Update - (Summer 2004)  aka DirectX 9.0c is now availible here...

Wow! Where the heck did the last 12 months go! Were already downloading a second year of directx "summer update" SDK's

I am probably going to be upgrading my account over at http://www.brinkster.com/ from a "instant web site package" to a "developer package" that should allow me to do much more with this site as well as add more content to my site. Right now I only have about 1mb left. (Kinda why I have not uploaded any content lately) Hopfully then I will not have to keep posting my works on other sites like PSC, gotdotnet etc, and will be able to host them myself.

Although I probably will not be doing the upgrade for another few months.

I am thinking I should create a new section when the  new site is setup, where people can submit there desktop screen capture videos for a particular topic like Direct3D, or gaming. Kind of a community TV station.

Cool Scent tracking AI

Published 7/24/2004 by createdbyx in News

Well as mentioned in my prev post I have successfully got a Scent tracking AI up and running. Basicly the principle is this. As the player moves around the world they leave scent molecules behind. Each scent molecule has a decay rate so that there scent strength is reduced over time until it completly dissapates.

As for the enemy AI, I gave the enemies 2 scent detectors. One on each side of it's body that extend foward. When a scent detector detecs a scent molecule the enemy will turn in the direction that it's scent detector was facing and move in that direction. I was caught compleatly off guard by how simple the code is to get the enemies to track your characters scent.

I was going to try and do a video screen capture but the screen capture software is unable to capture the AI at work. But I will keep trying.

So why did I try my hand at coding some scent tracking AI you ask? Well first off for gamming, but also it can be a cool feature to have in games like RPG's where you could have a pack of wild dogs or monsters that will catch your scent and start fallowing you!

Once I have played around with the code some more I intend to add additional AI both for vision and sound tracking.

One problem is that the Scent tracker AI is written in VB.NET 2005 express beta 1 and requires the .NET framework v2.0 beta in order to compile and run. So I won't be uploading the code just yet. Not until .NET 2.0 and VB.NET 2005 are offically availible.  But if someone wants the code anyway, I can provide it to them, just contact me at contact.createdbyx.com.
